The only celebrity endorsement that could actually swing the 2024 election
These are the best things I found on the internet in the past week!
What’s up friends,
Sorry for the one week hiatus. Last week at this time I was pretty busy, on stage at the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Cincinnati interviewing Metro Boomin. I wrote a behind-the-scenes account of that last week in this newsletter, and there will be a full Forbes story on the hip-hop hitmaker sometime next month.
Now I’m back home and dedicating myself to the newsletter grind, which means an extra long and juicy roundup of the best, most interesting and most entertaining content on the internet from the past week. Take the time to read or watch these, it’ll give you plenty to talk about with your friends all week. Enjoy!
What’s the coolest story or thing you found on the internet this week? Reply to this email and shoot me a link. Would love to hear from you!
Not sure how much better a personal news plug can get than this — I interviewed Snoop Dogg (and Dr. Dre!) for the cover of Forbes Life to figure out how he became America’s favorite stoner uncle. Here’s a shorter 4-minute cut of our interview on YouTube (a longer 15-minute cut will go up at some later date). As always if you’re tripped up by the paywall, reply to this email and I’ll help you figure it out.
Every news outlet in the country rapturously shared the news of Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris like it was the voice of God, but the Washington Post points out that the only celebrity endorsement that could actually have a significant impact on the 2024 election comes from … Bad Bunny. Will he do it? And for which side?
Across the country, the rates of marijuana use are increasing and alcohol decreasing, thanks to legalization and the theory that weed has less negative effects. One problem, notes The Atlantic, is that THC today is three times as potent as it was 25 years ago. This ain’t your grandma’s grass folks! And with little regulatory oversight, is today’s weed too strong?
This is a wild story. One of the world's most accomplished distance runners, and her coach have been caught removing accolades from other athletes' Wikipedia pages and "fluffing" her own.
This standup comedy bit from Chris Fleming about the snacks at Trader Joe’s that only women can see is probably the funniest use of physical comedy this side of John Belushi and Chris Farley.
Bill Hader might be my favorite celebrity in the world, but he’s also a world class cinephile. Hader visited the Criterion closet this week to hand out some really obscure movie suggestions…in the most entertaining way possible.
Looking to make a few extra bucks while still in high school? Here’s a job for you — prison guard. That’s right, Texas is addressing its shortage of corrections officers by training high schoolers to work inside its prisons and jails.
Shoutout to reader Tyler who shared the best thing he’s found in the past week: an 81-year-old Montana man who was sentenced to six months in prison for illegally using tissue and testicles from large sheep hunted in Central Asia and the U.S. to create (read: clone) hybrid sheep for captive trophy hunting.
GQ asks an important question about straight, male culture in the United States: why are men so weird about their birthdays?
Thanks for reading and sharing! It’s officially #MovieSZN so we have a ton of movies to talk about on Friday, talk to ya then!
