Why Hulu Might Be The Best Streaming Service, Pound For Pound
Let me make the case why you should subscribe to the little streamer that could
It’s only a matter of time before Hulu ceases to exist. Whether it’s one year, three years or 10 years away, the powers of corporate consolidation will eventually cram it under the Disney+ umbrella (at what I can only assume will be a higher price point).
Until then, it kind of exists as a fun little brother to the more “necessary” streamers. Unless you’re a big fan of “The Bear,” it’s understandable why a budget-conscious consumer may overlook it, but upon closer inspection I think you’ll find that Hulu is a repository for the back catalogs of many beloved TV shows — the same shows that once helped build Netflix into what it is, it should be said — as well as a landing spot for some surprisingly good movies made by the lame duck Fox administration after the big Disney merger.
If you’re someone that reads this newsletter consistently, but isn’t able to get out to the theaters and see a lot of the movies I rave about, a lot of those movies end up on Hulu. And while the older stuff isn’t as expansive or as splashy as some others, I honestly think that pound-for-pound it might have the best selection of any of them.
If you’re new to the service or feel like you haven’t gotten the most out of it yet, let me highlight the best of the best for you.
As with all these guides, I’m utilizing all of the 1000+ movie suggestions I’ve made over the past six years in my Friday edition of the newsletter, giving you the best of the best.
Much like my Cinephile Bucket List, I’ve broken these down into categories that should help you to browse depending on the vibe you’re looking for on a given night, with blurbs both new and old like a sales pitch to convince you to try out movies you’ve hopefully never seen before.
These guides will be updated regularly on a rolling basis.
Without further ado, here’s my first Hulu Streaming Guide!
