Martial law in Seoul, dogs in Chernobyl and the Pope going electric
These are the best things I found on the internet this week!
Hey gang, sorry for the day late post!
Had a very busy weekend reporting out something very exciting on the Forbes front. Stay tuned…

The basic premise of this newsletter has become increasingly clear in the six-plus years since I started it. The sheer volume of content has only increased during that time, in both senses of the word — we are exposed to just so much stuff all day every day, and that stuff can be deafening.
Now let’s get to the business at hand, which is another edition of my “conversation starters,” a roundup of the best, most interesting and most entertaining content on the internet in the past week. Read, watch, enjoy and share it around!
What’s the coolest story or thing you found on the internet this week? Reply to this email and shoot me a link. Would love to hear from you!
Instead of one Long Read of the Week, I’m passing along Bloomberg’s “Jealousy List,” which is all the best stories they wish they’d written through the year. There’s dozens of long reads (of the year!) on there if you’re looking for good reading material.
After a shocking coup attempt sent South Korea into political upheaval, martial law was declared for six hours in Seoul. One non-political journalist caught in the crossfire recalls his experience in gripping detail, and I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if something like this went down in the United States.
It’s hard to imagine two bros just sitting on a couch and chatting for two hours, especially about deep topics. But call it a podcast?? They’re all in! This Instagram skit hit a little too close to home.
You know those run maps from Strava that people post on social media? One man took those to another level, creating a stop-motion stick figure over the course of 120 runs that led to the most epic TikTok ever. “It’s an unbelievable amount of work,” he told the New York Times, “for a few seconds of content.”
Stray dogs living near the Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear disaster site are evolving and are even showing genetic differences, a study has revealed. Apparently the descendants of the inhabitants’ pets have survived!
Apparently a Dolly Parton musical is in the works for Broadway, and the show has put out an open casting call online for anyone to send in an audition video singing one of Dolly’s songs. Let me practice my “Jolene” !!
One more recent convert to the electric car revolution — the Pope. Mercedes Benz made the Holy Father an all-electric Popemobile. Don’t worry, it also has heated seats.
Thanks for reading and sharing! I’ll be back on Friday with movie talk, on schedule this time!!
