Cruise ships, lower case letters and the $30 million heist straight out of a movie
These are the best things I found on the internet this week!
What’s up everyone,
I’m headed to Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon to hob-knob with the Hollywood muckity mucks, and hopefully finally see what The Sphere hype is all about. In some ways I feel like Las Vegas has become less unique in recent years as the rest of the world has Vegas-ized itself. If you want to be bombarded by commercialization, vices and gambling, these days all you have to do is open up a web browser.
But there is still good stuff out there on the internet every day. I pride myself in finding it, then presenting it to you as my “conversation starters,” a weekly roundup of the best, most interesting and most entertaining content on the internet. Enjoy…and share!

As someone who has never been on a cruise ship and has no real desire to do so, I took great pleasure in this well-written and hilarious travel log of one writer’s nightmarish journey on the world’s largest cruise ship. It’s our Long Read of the Week!
All the heist movies in the world couldn’t have scripted it this well — a group of thieves stole $30 million in cash from a secure storage facility without triggering any alarms. No one noticed until the next day! It’s one of the biggest heists in history, and now the manhunt is on.
Say what you will about WWE (I loved it as a kid, but can’t deny its ridiculousness), the way this crowd at Wrestlemania on Sunday reacts to the surprise entrance of The Undertaker is up there with any of the great live sports moments in history.
Should politicians be allowed to trade stocks? Dan Toomey once again dives into the business questions that matter — it’s funny, but it’s actually really good journalism! The bottom line is they are, and they’re making a killing.
im just old enough to have missed the trend where digital natives type everything using lowercase letters. the wall street now says punctuation is like a rite of passage, and gen z is entering adulthood and the work force and finally realizing they have to capitalize letters. my take: good riddance!
A British guy who calls himself the “hardest geezer” ran across the entire continent of Africa. The route was the equivalent of 390 marathons over a year-plus, he got lost in the jungle once, and now basically he’s a real life Forrest Gump — right down to the news person running alongside him while reporting.
Headlines That Require No Context: Botswana offers to ship 20,000 elephants to Germany.
The NCAA Tournament finished last night, which gives us one of the best traditions in all of sports: the “One Shining Moment” music video recapping all the drama, triumph and heartbreak.
Thanks for reading and sharing! On Friday hopefully I’ll have a review of The Sphere and Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard From Earth to go with our usual movie talk!
