Amazon Prime has the best genre movies of any streamer. These are the best
Amazon Prime Video Streaming Guide (Updated Feb. 5)
We’re in the middle of Dumpuary, and as I’ve explained before, if this is a time for anything, it’s a time for hard genre — comedy, rom-com, action, thriller, horror. We want movies that are simple and satisfying.
And when I looked across the streaming landscape this week, that platform with the best genre selection was Amazon, by a mile. Am I the only one that thinks Netflix’s movies are getting so…obvious? It’s new stuff, originals and blockbusters. I could scroll on there for an hour and not see a movie I haven’t heard of (and probably only a handful I haven’t seen).
Meanwhile, while thumbing through the digital stacks on America’s favorite toiler paper provider, I wrote down no less than five movie titles I really wanted to see that I had never heard of before. Giving myself homework!!
Yes, there are a few stone cold classics on there, and a decent selection of older stuff, but really the gold to be mined on Amazon is comedies, rom-coms, action and thrillers from the 2000s forward. It just so happens those are the kinds of movies I love.
If you’re like me, then you’re going to love this Amazon Prime Video streaming guide I put together.
Utilizing all of the 1000+ movie suggestions I’ve made over the past six years in my Friday edition of the newsletter, I’ve hand-picked the best of the best on each platform (updated on a rolling basis…here are my most recent ones for Netflix and Max).
Much like my Cinephile Bucket List, I’ve broken these down into categories that should help you to browse depending on the vibe you’re looking for on a given night, with blurbs both new and old like a sales pitch to convince you to try out movies you’ve hopefully never seen before. Let’s get into it!
